Summary:

In the wake of the devastating destruction of the luxury yacht Persephone, just three souls remain to tell its story—and two of them are lying.

Only Frances Mace knows the terrifying truth, and she’ll stop at nothing to avenge the murders of everyone she held dear. Even if it means taking down the boy she loves and possibly losing herself in the process.

Review:

I’m the daughter of murdered parents.
I’m the friend of a dead girl.
I’m the lover of my enemy.
And I will have my revenge.

I had extremely high expectations for Daughter of Deep Silence, and needless to say it did not disappoint. This is a chilling and unputdownable analysis about one girl’s drive for revenge against those who wronged her, and I enjoyed every bit of it. This is my first book by Carrie Ryan, but it most certainly won’t be my last.

I am nothing except this: a girl reborn of the deep ocean silence, meant for nothing but vengeance.

When the luxury cruise ship Persephone is attacked, all of its passengers are killed. All except three – who manage to live to tell the tale. And two of them are lying about what happened.

Francis Mace lost everything on the fatal day the ship was attacked, but through sheer luck, she manages to survive. Now rescued, her whole life revolves around getting revenge against the people that murdered her parents and her best friend… no matter what the cost.

It’s funny, most people think that revenge is a passionate affair, driven by rage and pain. But it can’t be. Feelings such as those make you weak.

Frances is an extremely well-written character – calculated and determined, never swaying from her goals. She is so focused on getting revenge that sometimes she doesn’t even seem able to see what’s right in front of her, but after all she’s lost, who can blame her? Everything about Frances – her fears, her hopes and her need for revenge – really soaks into your head in the best way possible. Even long after finishing the book, she’s a character that will stay in your mind for days – even weeks – to come.

Combine an amazing plot with a swoon-worthy romance and Carrie’s eloquence and gift with words and the result is an unforgettable, spine-tingling revenge thriller. Daughter of Deep Silence is all that and more, and I can’t recommend it enough.

But that’s the one thing about silences and futures; someone will always come along to fill them in. If you let them.

  1. I definitely want to read this book. Ever since reading We Were Liars I’ve been more interested in reading thrillers, and Daughter of Deep Silence sounds like a great one. Frances also sounds like a great character, and I think it’s great that the author really took the time to immerse the reader into her character. Oh, and that cover is gorgeous. I want that dress! 🙂

  2. I love those books that don’t disappoint! So happy you loved this!I need to start this series. So many great books out there that need my attention. 😉

  3. Ohhhh, I’m so excited to get my hands on a copy of this one. I’ve read her Forest of Hands and Teeth and she’s such a skilled author. ‘All except three – who manage to live to tell the tale. And two of them are lying about what happened.’ I can’t tell you how happy that statement makes me. I’ve been looking for more awesome YA thrillers since Dangerous Girls, but nothing has lived up to that kind of level for me yet, but this might be the book that finally lives up to the hype. Wonderful review Zoe <3

    1. If you liked Dangerous Girls (who am I kidding? Everyone whose read it does – haha!) then this one is definitely up your alley. It doesn’t have as much focus on the actual mystery part per se, but the thrills are just as strong.

  4. I’m glad to see that you really enjoyed this one! I’ve been seeing it around a lot which has made me really want to read it. I’ve heard great things about Carrie Ryan’s The Forest of Hands and Teeth as well, which I’m hoping to read soon. Great review! I love your blog design. 😀

    1. I think it is Jess! And if you’re a fan of thrillers with awesome romance, this is definitely for you. 😉

  6. This actually reminds me of that TV show, Revenge, do you know about it? I wonder how similar it is to that. I’m glad you loved this Zoe! I was afraid this wouldn’t live up to my expectations, but maybe I’ll give it a shot one day 🙂

    AWESOME REVIEW ZOE <3 <3

  7. I love this author. And considering how long it’s been since her last release, this book is definitely on my list of must have for 2015. I’m glad it met your expectations. That gives me hope, at least. 🙂

  8. CONFESSION: I’ve read a few of Carrie Ryan’s books, and dear god, I did not like them AT ALL. And from what I could gather from reviews I read I wasn’t alone in thinking like that either, but I’ve been seeing SUCH great things about this book that I know I’ll give it a chance. Great to see you enjoyed it. ^_^

    1. Yeah! Glad you’re still willing to give it a chance even if you didn’t like her other books Kara. 🙂

  9. I WANT IT. I love thrillers and I don’t read nearly enough and when I do they’re not so…thrilly. (Thrilly is totally a word, don’t look at me like that.) ZOMG I WANT THIS ONE. Plus it got a full 4-stars from you, so that’s recommendation enough. 😉

  10. I want to read this book! I’ve heard so much about Daughter of Deep Silence, but this was the only time I actually read the synopsis and the review, so I really have to say that this truly piqued my interest 🙂 I’m glad this didn’t disappoint you Zoe! Now I’m so excited to get started on it 😀

  11. Ooh! This is better than I expected. The summary didn’t seem as enticing until you started describing it. It sounds like her revenge was really rage fueled even if she said different since she’s missing something right in front of her. I will be adding this to my tbr list now. Thanks for the persuading review!

    1. Thank you for the lovely comment Adriana – I hope that you end up enjoying this one as much as I did once you get a copy of it!

  14. This book reminds me of Revenge (which I love!). I’ve heard nothing but positive things about this, and a 4 star review from you MUST mean it’s good. I’ll have to check this one out! The quotes are chilling, and the main character sure sounds determined. Lovely review, Z!

    1. Glad you’re intrigued Rachel! I know thriller aren’t your normal genre, but I hope even so you end up liking this as much as I did. <3

  15. I REALLY want this, not least because of the beautiful wave images. If I had a US address, I would totally preorder for the giveaway. But as it is, I’m adding it to my TBR and keeping my eyes open for more positive reviews.

  16. Okay, first, HOLY SHIZZZZ. I WANT THIS BOOK. I NEED THIS BOOK. RIGHT NOW. RIGHT HERE. I just bought bought three new books these past two days and I am willing to set them aside just to read this one (plus, you, Zoe, loved it enough to give it 4 stars, and that’s high praise to me ;D) The plot sounds absolutely amazing. Three survivors and two are lying? Sign me up, please please please <3

    1. I hope once you get a copy that it doesn’t disappoint you Faye! ♥ And aw…thank you for your sweet words. You made my day!

  17. Unputdownable?! You had me sold at that word!

I LOVE characters that really stay with you- books that linger are my very favorite kind. So it’s awesome to hear that the MC here really is memorable! She seems really fleshed out, and very realistic, especially since sometimes she isn’t able to see what’s in front of her.

The quotes you included show just how gorgeous this author’s writing really is! It sounds like a gorgeous and extremely creepy book all around, and so it’s definitely going on my TBR list.

    Lovely, lovely review Zoe! <33

    1. Unputdownable is definitely a seller, right? 😉 I hope if you get your hands on a copy that you enjoy it as much as I did Aneeqah!

  18. I was interested, but your review made me want it so much. Three survivors, two are lying, and REVENGE. I love revenge stories so much, especially if they’re so dark and well done. I’m definitely looking out for this book now, Zoe.

  19. I was hoping to pick this up at BEA but ended up standing in line for a different book. Looks really good though and I’ve heard a lot of good things about Daughter of Deep Silence. Question first though…Does this have a happy ending?

  20. Ooh, sign me up. Just from the quotes I can already tell I’m really going to like this one, I’m loving the writing. A great main character and a great romance too? I need.

  21. I’m glad you liked this. I didn’t, but I love to read passionate reviews (except if it’s about a book I found offensive, but that’s not the case with this one). I do like the dress the girl wears on the cover, though. 🙂

    1. I read your review on Goodreads Vane, and I can definitely see why you might not have liked this one. 🙂 Thank you for the lovely comment though!
